This house was apparently bought by Bert Salter when he was married to Edith née Gordon. After Bert’s death Edith lived on there with her maiden sister Katherine (Kate). I used to visit regularly as a child. The living room was on the left (facing the house) and the dining room on the right. Jut at the bottom of the garden was the Folkestone to London train track, where I enjoyed watching the steam locomotives.

      Ross(-on-Wye) is not in Staffordshire!
“K.M.” must refer to [William] Kyrle Montagu (son). Missing are: Elizabeth Helen and William Thomas (probably listed as P.G. Gordon); could the censor have mixed up William Kyrle Montagu with Elizabeth?

Kyrle Earnley Gordon wrote in 1997: "I think some of the family moved to Aberdeen House, Lyminge [Kent] about 1914/15. I remember Edith, Kate, Reginald, Stuart & Lilian being there in the early 20's."

Afterwards Edith lived with her sister Katherine (auntie Kate, who had a moustache - I hated having to kiss her!) in a house called Norvic, 18 Broadfield Road, in Folkestone, Kent, which belonged to her second husband. At the end of their garden was the railway line, and I remember the steam trains puffing and chuffing as they accelerated from the nearbye station. They had a maid called Winnie, who resembled nothing less than a cadaver. She used to wear a little lace coif like old-time maids. Aunt Edith was an excellent cook, and we often had Christmas dinners there when I was very young.
